Overwhelm and outsourcing; a love letter
Hi there!
This week I have been researching for my big pitch on the 27th of November with the Griffin Trust, making meetings to gather social proof, uploading items from Birdsnest and Petal and Pup to the demo website, and testing the official website!
This week it really hit me how much information I am trying to absorb and turn into something meaningful. I seemed to be very far away from the thing that I want to be doing - connecting people with useful clothing - and sucked into a void of "Is what I'm doing really offering people value? Is it something investors will really want to back?" I want to have all the information, so that I can create informed answers with integrity.
And everything felt like spaghetti. I couldn't see where one job ended and another began. One of the Griffin Accelerator teams did their first practice pitch, and not only did they seem to have answers for everything, but their deck also looked amazing, and I just started thinking, "What am I doing here?"
But, one lovely member of the Griffin Cohort gave me a very kind ear, my partner reminded me how good things are going so far, and today I am back on the horse.
It's easy to think maybe I'm not cut out for this, it's so stressful. But the reason I am stressed is because I care. I want to create the best possible business, and I want to be as informed and honest as possible, and I want to offer a pitch to the investors that shows I would be a conscientious custodian of their investment, creating the most value for everyone as possible.
And you know what? That IS a big job! And that's ok.
I had a look at the most important things for me to be focusing on. One is algorithm development. This will set me apart from other services, by being more comprehensive and able to process larger quantities of items. The next is marketing. I need to establish brand awareness and trust and get the word out there!
Both of these things will generate more sales, which is the crux. The business is no good if it isn't helping anyone!
But I am a one-person team. As hard-working and resourceful as I am, there are only 24 hours in a day. So, after my sanity check yesterday, I have decided to get in some help for the marketing. It's a huge weight off my shoulders. Now hopefully I can focus on putting the pitch together that Your Season deserves!
One thing that can help pull outfits together and make you look more polished is matching shapes in your items with jewellery. For example, if you have a top with straight lines, try straight drop earrings. Or, if you have an abstract pattern, you could try an interesting-shaped necklace. Scale - the tip from last week - also applies here! If you have large shapes, try an oversized watch, or delicate jewellery for small shapes or patterns.
